Your experiences give us wisdom. Your successes give us hope. Your understanding gives us encouragement. And your struggles give us permission to admit when we need help.

'Tis the season to try and lose weight.
People ask all the time what I think is the best way to drop those pounds and fit into that bikini or that little black dress. My answer typically surprises them.
Generally, I say, don't worry about the scale or the clothes in the back of your closet. Instead, what if we focused on our performance goals?
Think about it. Professional athletes, some celebrities, the people whose bodies you might wish you had, they are going to train and fuel for the purpose of bettering their performance of specific tasks. One of our goals at Fit4Mom Flower Mound/Denton/Frisco is help moms shift the focus from the scale to how they perform the daily tasks ahead of them (and the ones they are aiming for)!
This starts with setting goals. Forget the bikini for a minute, and think of what you want to accomplish. It might be that you want to run a marathon this year! "I gained some weight with my pregnancy like most women do. Ok, let’s be honest. I gained 65 pounds! Ridiculous, right? Well, after all the initial giving birth weight came off, I was still carrying around an extra 40 pounds. I wasn’t too concerned about it, because I was a breastfeeding mom – the new mom’s miracle diet. Lucky me, I apparently am one of the few that is resistant to the miracle diet drug of breastfeeding. Despite breastfeeding, watching my calorie intake and exercising, I only lost 10 pounds in eleven months. I was getting frustrated of trying so hard and not seeing any significant results. I’m not unrealistic about weight loss; I knew it would take a while to come off. Let’s look at our children for a moment. No matter what age they are, pause with me and think about your kids (and all kids for that matter). How do they exercise? How do they eat? I think Mommy could learn some pretty valuable fitness lessons from the Littles!
Once children are not solely driven by needs for food and sleep, their actions begin to lean toward a specific motivation: fun. Kids want to have fun and they seek it out over and over again during the course of their day. At a certain age, it becomes a driving force in their behavior and remains that way for many years! When you were a child, how did you get your exercise? You probably did what most kids do. Kids play. They play really hard whenever they get the opportunity. They play everyday, multiple times a day. Sometimes they play so hard that they wear themselves completely out! They burn some serious calories with all that playing and they don’t even realize they’re exercising! I'm a little behind in posting this, but better late than never! I finished my eight-week journey through the Body Back Program! I could not be more pleased with the results!
I lost 12lbs and 11 inches total! I have pushed myself even when no one was around to eat well and get a hard workout in. I've even had several people mention, not just the weight loss, but that I looked stronger and more fit!
The best part, though (and the one the data can't measure), is the inner strength and confidence I've gained from this experience! It's a total shift in perspective! Since beginning Body Back, I've had several encounters with people I've known a long time telling me, "There's something different about you!" One friend said, "This is a way more confident you than I've ever seen before. You're still yourself, just a stronger version." What a compliment! I feel more willing to take on challenges and more open to the rewards of pushing past my comfort zone physically and emotionally!

I'm nearing the end of this journey and I have to admit...
Weeks 5 & 6 were tough!
I found a lot of excuses for missing workouts, eating poorly, and reverting back to those negative thought patterns. I had to refer back to my vision board, my goals, and those wretched before pictures to find motivation more than once! Some days, I could easily get back on track and others took a little more time to reboot.
I'm so close to the end and I've come really far, so I started thinking, "Why am I doing this now?" I have established these healthy habits and I don't feel deprived or weighed down by this program, so what is it?
I think the answer comes down to fear. But not in the way you might think. I think often, especially as moms, we fear failure. But I think, sometimes, we also fear success. I know that sounds strange, but think about it.
"What if I go further than I've ever gone before? Then what? Will I be able to keep it up? Will people expect more out of me than I can give?"

Today was a milestone day in my Body Back journey! Three and a half weeks into this eight-week program, I have reached my pre-pregnancy weight! I am nine months post-partum and I've made it to that "magic number" I was hoping to get to!
While it is exciting to see the number on the scale moving, there are even more exciting changes happening! First of all, my clothes FIT! They fit and they look good! This has done huge things for my confidence!
I am also finding that I don't want to eat as much. Even when very "tempting" foods are in front of me, it hasn't been as difficult to resist them. It was a struggle to get to this weight before I was pregnant, but this time, the struggle has been different. I still have to work at it, but my mind is in the right place and the struggle is freeing rather than binding!
Perhaps the best change, however, has been a growing awareness of how I talk to myself. There's a voice that tells me that I can't do it, I'm not a good parent, I'll never reach my fitness goals. The other voice tells me that I have a purpose in...more
Well, I have completed my first week on the Body Back program and I think I might be even more excited and inspired than I was when I started!
The workouts have been hard, but I've done them! There were a couple of times when I didn't want to go workout because I was too tired or too busy, but I shut those voices up and went out anyway. It was worth it every single time!
The meal plan has been super easy to follow so far and I've pretty much been eating the same breakfast and lunch each day. That's absolutely not required, but it works for me, so that's what I'm doing! Between the water intake and cutting out the junk food, I'm feeling really good so far. I haven't really felt hungry because there are snacks throughout the day. I did have one day that was emotionally difficult for a little bit and I wanted to turn to food, but I took a step back and made different choices instead.
Overall, a really successful week! I intend to step up the intensity of the workouts a little in the coming week and celebrate the small victories in this past week! I don't...more
This past weekend, I attended a Fit4Mom training and became certified to teach a program called Body Back! I've come home fully charged, inspired, and ready to share with my tribe!
The training was incredibly informative and way more introspective than I expected! I expected to go in, learn some A&P and bio-mechanics, do a master class and take a quiz. Instead, I got to meet some brave and inspiring women, take a look at some deep-seeded fears, and experience several amazing workouts! I've decided to go on my own Mommy Wants Her Body Back journey and include you every step of the way! My hope is that you will read this, follow it, and be inspired. I want you to experience this transformation for yourself and break the cycles that are keeping you from living in every nook and cranny of your life! I want to be real and vulnerable and completely transparent and I want it to encourage you to break free! The best gift we can give to our family is the healthiest version of ourselves!
